GREENBRANCH STUDIO
Greenbranch is about being open to learning new things. The pliable green branch can bend and grow. It is symbolic of the way I work in my studio - always learning something new.
I'm an artist and retired high school art teacher.
I love to play with mud, and have been exploring textiles, fabric dyeing, block printing and slow stitching.
I have a lovely studio right outside my back door. I love learning new things and making art to share joy and beauty in the world.
I am inspired by textures and patterns I find in the natural world. I have a totally unobstructed view of the world around me that allows me to absorb, collect and catalogue images that I can bring forth in my work. My work is continually informed by the forms and connections I see in the natural world. These images flow from my brain catalogue into my hands while I form, carve, stitch, and build.
Some of my favorite influences are perfect "wishing stone" circles on beach stones, rivulets formed in the sand when the tide goes out, the beauty and rich diversity of the items I find during my beach combing days, and vintage botanical drawings.
The objects that I make are more than objects. They are touched by my hands, with an unspoken language - often made in quiet and contemplative time. I love to think that what I make with my hands connects me with the person who then holds and uses my art.
